In the late 19th century, Macmillan & Co. was the primary publisher for Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Before 1884, Tennyson’s works were published by Kegan Paul. In a major literary coup, Macmillan & Co. signed a contract with Tennyson in January 1884. This led to the first "Macmillan Edition" of his collected works. The Single Volume "Globe" Style: A thick, green cloth book with a gilt (gold) portrait of Tennyson on the front cover. These often have around 800–900 pages of thin "India paper." The hardcover book has some wear on the spine and general age related wear consistent with its age.
