Sicilian puppets are a distinctive form of traditional marionette theater, known as "Opera dei Pupi," which emerged in Sicily in the early 19th century. These puppets are not just toys; they are sophisticated instruments for storytelling, primarily performing epic tales of chivalry, especially those from the Carolingian cycle (the stories of Charlemagne and his knights), as well as tales of saints, bandits, and even classical Greek and Roman myths.
Puppet features meticulously crafted armor, a defining feature of these puppets. Armor is made of elaborate metal which is hammered and embossed with traditional designs. Hand painted face. Framed in a large mirrored shadow box. The pictures don't do this item justice!
