The cabinet features a distinct design with a glass top and sides, allowing customers to view the contents. The internal wooden drawers step down towards the back creating a cascading or tiered display effect visible through the glass. Made from solid wood with glass panels, brass corners and original patented brass shell pull handles. These were historically used in general stores or tailor's shops to display various small goods. While founded in London in 1860, the company had a significant and prestigious presence in South Africa for over half a century. The inner front features the authentic makers plaque.
