The text inside the 1953 Familiebybel is the 1933/1953 Revision. After the first Afrikaans translation was released in 1933, the translators immediately began refining it to improve the language and correct minor errors. This work culminated in the 1953 version, which remained the standard for Afrikaans-speaking churches for decades (until the "Nuwe Vertaling" in 1983.
