Manufactured by Cannon Iron Foundries Limited (originally Edward & Stephen Sheldon & Company Limited, later Cannon Hollowware & Company Limited). The company purchased a grindstone manufacturer in 1895 and opened a grindstone department. They produced grindstones under the "Cannon" brand and this would indicate the stands would date from the late 19th century into the 20th century before the company changed focus and was eventually taken over by GEC in 1964. The name specifies cast iron, which aligns with the company's core business as a foundry producing a wide range of cast iron goods. Cast iron was a common, heavy, and stable material for tool stands like grindstones. The green painted wood sides on top of the stand is fitted aftermarket and acts as a shield when sharpening knifes. Dimensions: 66cm x 54cm (width with handle) x 96cm (h) and 25cm (width without handle).
