This elegant rectangular wall plaque is a classic example of Chinese Coromandel-style lacquerware, likely dating from the mid-to-late 20th century. It features an intricate mother-of-pearl inlay depicting a pair of peacocks perched on a blossoming cherry or plum branch, symbolizing beauty, dignity, and the arrival of spring in East Asian iconography. The piece is finished with a decorative gilt-painted border and a traditional brass "bat" shaped hanger at the top.
Condition: The plaque is in fairly good vintage condition. The mother-of-pearl remains vibrant with a strong iridescent luster, although a piece or two has broken off. There are minor signs of age-related wear, including light surface scuffs on the black lacquer and small areas of thinning or chips on the gilt-painted frame edges. Dimensions: 91cm x 30.5cm
