This is a vintage Enterprise Mfg. Co. No. 1 cast iron press, manufactured in Philadelphia, PA, during the late 19th or early 20th century. Renowned for their durability and "Enterprise" branding, these versatile machines were staples in American farmhouses for pressing lard, extracting fruit juices for jelly, and even stuffing sausages. The device operates using a heavy-duty beveled gear and screw mechanism to apply significant pressure to whatever is placed inside the canister. In terms of condition, the piece is in a heavily weathered, "as-found" state, showing surface rust, pitting, and green oxidation near the base, all adding beautiful character.
