This lot features two authentic pieces of British military history, representing the evolution of sidearms from the late Victorian era through the World Wars. The first item is a well-preserved British Pattern 1888 MK II Lee-Metford Bayonet. Manufactured by the renowned Wilkinson of London and dated January 1897 (1 97), it features a polished double-edged blade and a wooden grip secured by brass rivets. Of particular interest to collectors is the pommel, which is stamped "I Y C," identifying it as issued to the Imperial Yeomanry, a unit famously deployed during the Second Boer War. It includes its original leather scabbard with steel mounts.
The second item is a rugged, weathered fragment of a British Pattern 1907 (P1907) Bayonet, originally designed for the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) rifle. This piece shows a deep, dark patina and a shortened blade, typical of "trench-modified" fighting knives or battlefield relics. It retains the iconic "bird’s head" pommel and muzzle ring, providing a stark, historical contrast to the more pristine P1888. Items show surface corrosion, with age-related wear. Dimensions: 36.5cm (l) and 42cm (l)
