An expressive, organic biomorphic carving by the highly influential South African sculptor Israel-Isaac "Lippy" Lipshitz (1903–1980), dated 1975. Carved from natural bone (or horn) and mounted on a tiered square wooden plinth, this slender, spiraling sculpture showcases Lipshitz's signature embrace of modernism, expressionism, and "primitivism." The artwork beautifully works with the material's natural twists and textures to create a fluid, animistic form, characteristic of the artist's late-career exploration of organic media. The sculpture is in good aged condition, showing natural wear, patination, and organic weathering consistent with its material and age. It features natural fissures and minor hairline cracks inherent to aged bone/horn, including a visible natural horizontal age crack near the mid-to-lower section. The carving remains firmly mounted to its tiered square wooden base, which shows minor scuffs, natural wear, and patina. The artist’s signature and date, "Lippy 1975", are incised and clearly legible at the bottom back of the carving just above the base. Dimensions: 27cm H (including base)
