Pair of Antique William IV/Early Victorian Mahogany Armchairs
This lot features a pair of distinctive, complementary 19th-century English mahogany armchairs, showcasing the transitioning styles of the William IV and early Victorian eras (circa 1830–1850). While unnamed by a specific cabinetmaker as is typical for the period, both chairs exhibit the fine craftsmanship of British furniture history, featuring elegantly curved scroll arms and rich mahogany frames. They are a non-identical, complementary duo: one chair features robust, turned front legs and a wider, curved yoke backrest, while the other presents a sleek, linear bar-back design with tapered square legs. Both pieces are finished with a unique, patterned mauve-and-white upholstery. The frames are in good antique condition, showing a beautifully aged patina, minor superficial surface wear, and light scuffs consistent with age and historic use, while the fabric remains intact and tightly fitted. Dimensions for the larger chair are 88.5cm (h) x 50.5cm (w) x 54cm (d), and the companion measures 85.5cm (h) x 56cm (w) x 52cm (d).
