One side features a hand-painted scene set against a radiant gold ground, portraying noble figures on horseback under a weeping willow along a tranquil shoreline—a classical motif evoking Tang and Song dynasty court procession imagery. The reverse side presents a dramatic black lacquer field ornamented with carved, high-relief soapstone or hardstone inlaid figures, depicting courtly life and scholars amidst architectural pavilions and natural landscapes, accented by finely incised gilt line work.
