Barrett depicting the São Christovão, the historic 120-ton caravel commanded by Portuguese explorer Bartholomeu Dias during his landmark 1488 expedition around the Cape of Good Hope. Finished with an elegant gilded rim, the plate displays vivid details of the vessel featuring the iconic Order of Christ cross on its lateen sails.
Produced by Heritage Porcelain under the Huguenot Royale mark, this piece is part of a worldwide limited edition of 10,000 plates. The back of the plate features an inscribed historical summary detailing Dias's journey along the South African coast to the Bushman's River.
