An exceptional historical wall plaque featuring a late Victorian solid brass "By Royal Appointment" emblem mounted on a circular stitched leather backing. Originally designed and built as a wall clock incorporating the heavy cast brass maker's plate, it now survives as a distinctive advertising plaque and display piece. The diamond-shaped badge reads "BY ROYAL APPOINTMENT - CHUBB - LOCK & SAFE MAKERS - 128 QUEEN VICTORIA ST - LONDON", accented with the Royal Coat of Arms and fine perimeter stitching on the rich leather mount. Dimensions: 24cm diameter
Good historical condition with rich, authentic character. The heavy brass emblem retains a fine, original aged patina with crisp relief lettering and detailing. The circular brown leather body exhibits natural surface scuffs, darkening, and wear commensurate with age. Originally fitted as a wall clock; the clock hands and internal movement have been removed/disassembled over time, leaving the center aperture, mounting hardware, and reverse backing intact for wall display via the wire hanger.
