This vintage mid-to-late 20th-century miner’s safety flame lamp features its original central glass cylinder bearing British safety markings, housed within a robust steel and brass frame. The distinctive oval brass maker's plaque on the bonnet reads "Victor Kent (Pty) Ltd, Approval Certificate G.M.E.F. No.1, Wolf Lamp - Type 7RMBS," indicating it was distributed in South Africa under official Government Mining Engineer (G.M.E.) approval. Originally developed by the Wolf Safety Lamp Co. to detect dangerous gases and low oxygen levels in underground mines, this rugged piece displays a heavily weathered, authentic industrial patina with significant surface rust on the iron bonnet and base, alongside minor solder repairs on the bottom. Despite its rustic, as-found condition, the internal wick mechanism remains intact, making it an excellent, character-rich addition to any collection of militaria or mining memorabilia.
