John Tabraham is widely considered one of South Africa’s most influential mid-century modern designers. His collaboration with Kallenbach’s (a firm founded by architect Hermann Kallenbach) during the 1960s and 70s produced some of the country’s most sought-after furniture, heavily influenced by Danish Modern aesthetics. Most pieces utilize Kiaat (wild teak) or Sapele Mahogany. While the frames and edging are typically solid wood, the larger panels often use high-quality veneers—a hallmark of mid-century construction that allowed for beautiful grain matching. Minimalist Hardware that forgo traditional knobs for integrated recessed finger grips to maintain a clean, linear silhouette. (leather handles are a bit worn). The top surface has some scratches on the far right of the sideboard and a small wood chip on the far left - see photos.
