This vintage bench-mounted sharpener, manufactured by The Carborundum Co. of Niagara Falls, features a manual hand crank with its original contoured wooden handle and an integrated underside screw clamp for workbench attachment. The piece is in well-aged antique condition, exhibiting a heavy rustic patina with extensive paint loss, surface rust, and workshop grime that underscores its industrial history while remaining structurally complete. The "Black Knight" series of manual tool sharpeners was designed by the Luther Grinder Manufacturing Company of Milwaukee and manufactured on behalf of The Carborundum Company of Niagara Falls, New York. These sturdy, cast-iron shop tools were heavily produced and utilized during the early 20th century (predominantly between 1911 and 1925) before electric bench grinders became standard in workshops.
