This dynamic, hand-carved sculpture captures a dramatic wildlife struggle, featuring a pride of lions taking down a Cape Buffalo. Crafted from a single, heavy piece of dense hardwood—likely African Ironwood—the piece exhibits intricate textural detailing in the lions' manes and the buffalo’s hide, showcasing a high level of craftsmanship. Measuring 57cm in length and 21.5cm in height, it serves as a substantial and powerful statement piece. Regarding its condition, the sculpture is largely well-preserved with a deep, natural patina; however, there is a visible chip and minor structural crack on the buffalo’s right horn, and some light wear consistent with the age of organic wood carvings.
