This vintage optical theodolite is a classic surveying instrument manufactured by the renowned Swiss company Wild Heerbrugg, specifically bearing the low serial number No. 6826, which dates its production back to the late 1920s or early 1930s. Designed by the legendary instrument maker Heinrich Wild, the T1 revolutionized the surveying world with its compact, enclosed design and glass circles read through an internal optical microscope. The item is in well-used, vintage condition, displaying a charming patina with significant paint wear, surface scratches, and minor rust on the rugged, dome-shaped steel transport canister. While all the mechanical knobs, adjustments, and the leveling tribrach appear intact and rotate, the internal optics, leveling vials, and crosshairs have not been fully calibrated or tested for accuracy, making this an incredible, authentic display piece for collectors of historic scientific, military, or engineering equipment.
