This charming, authentic vintage charcoal smoothing iron features a distinct hinged lid with a serrated, sawtooth top edge designed for heat ventilation, two crescent-shaped lower side vents, and its original vibrant red-painted wooden handle. The back plate clearly displays its original aluminum maker's mark reading "Shing Hop Foundry Factory, No. 20, Made in Hong Kong" along with traditional Chinese characters. Originating from mid-20th-century Hong Kong, these irons were designed to hold hot embers or charcoal inside the hollow body to heat the base plate for pressing fabric. The set comes complete with its matching heavy, decorative cast iron trivet stand to protect surfaces from intense heat, and the interior still retains its original loose grate. Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition, showing a beautifully weathered patina, minor surface oxidation, and age-appropriate wear to the wooden handle, making this a highly collectible and complete decorative set.
