Painted by celebrated South African artist Johan Grobler (1935–1992), renowned for his expressive wildlife and landscape compositions, this original 1977 oil on canvas board depicts a herd of wildebeest gathered across an arid veld beneath dramatic, cloud-filled skies and a distant plateau. Grobler’s signature impressionistic style is showcased through rich, textured brushwork and a balanced palette of warm earth tones, soft ochres, and cool lavender undertones. The work is signed and dated in the lower right and presented in its period wooden frame with an inner textured slip and gilt fillet.
