This is a robust antique "fire-resisting" floor safe manufactured by the renowned Samuel Withers & Co. Ltd. of West Bromwich, England. Dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century, this piece features a heavy-duty cast iron body with a striking brass "clenched fist" handle and original brass maker's plaques. An additional plaque from The Rand Office & Shop Furnishing Co. in Johannesburg indicates its historical use in South Africa. The interior is fitted with a removable metal shelf and two small lockable drawers at the base, while the inner door retains a vibrant, original paper label highlighting the company's status as contractors to the British Admiralty and War Office. The safe is in solid, functional antique condition and includes its original key. The exterior shows character-adding wear, consistent with its age. The brass hardware has a natural aged patina, and the interior paper label remains remarkably well-preserved with only minor staining. Dimensions: 53cm (l) x 54cm (d) x 76cm (h)
