This striking pair of heavy bookends features traditionally styled Foo Dogs (Imperial Guardian Lions), hand-carved with intricate detail from a dark, dense wood. Each figure is depicted in a classic seated pose atop an ornate plinth base decorated with floral and leaf motifs; one lion rests a paw upon a decorative ball while the other guards a cub, symbolizing protection and luck. Measuring 20.5cm (h) x 9cm (w), they possess a rich, deep patina that beautifully highlights the stylized manes and muscular forms.
