This unique mid-20th-century South African imbuia writing bureau brings a fascinating twist to a classic design, having been creatively repurposed and modified over time. While it retains its iconic tamboured roll-top aesthetic on the exterior, it has been cleverly retrofitted with a functional drop-down front that features a fold-out wing mechanism to expand the workspace. The interior compartment has been retrofitted with later-added wood panels, and the lower section includes a storage drawer and a fold-down bottom cupboard framed by decorative wavy louvred panels on traditional claw-and-ball feet. It is in fair vintage condition with visible surface wear, scratches, and a piece of the front louvred trim separating/lifting, making it a wonderful character piece or a rewarding light restoration project.
