Created in 2001–2002, "Sharpeville Remembered" is a significant collaborative commemorative print portfolio co-published by the Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg and the Vaal Triangle Technikon (Department of Visual Arts & Design). The project brought together prominent and emerging South African printmakers to reflect upon and commemorate the historic Sharpeville Massacre of March 21, 1960. This complete outer presentation box contains 21 of the original 22 signed and numbered limited edition prints (Edition 25/55), complete with the original title cover flyer and tissue interweaving. The Sharpeville Remembered print portfolio was produced at a pivotal moment in South African post-apartheid art history to honor the victims of the March 21, 1960 Sharpeville Massacre. Co-ordinated as a joint collaborative project between the renowned Artist Proof Studio (APS) in Johannesburg—founded in 1991 by Kim Berman and the late Nhlanhla Xaba—and the Vaal Triangle Technikon Fine Art department, the portfolio served as a powerful visual testament to memory, human rights, and reconciliation. The participating artists utilized diverse print techniques including intaglio, etching, relief, and lithography. Among the prominent contributors is APS co-founder Kim Berman, whose evocative drypoint/etching features her iconic motif of abandoned shoes and hats symbolizing the chaotic aftermath of the shooting. The inclusion of works by leading figures such as Nhlanhla Xaba (who tragically passed away in 2003) adds substantial historical and art-historical value to this landmark collective body of contemporary South African graphic art. The prints remain in excellent original condition, housed between original protective tissue sheets. The outer black portfolio box shows minor shelf wear and surface scuffing along the edges. Missing 1 print from the original 22-piece collection set. Dimensions: 56.5cm x 38cm each
