This hand-carved African hardwood weaving loom pulley features a stylized, elongated figure mounted atop the arch structure. Traditionally crafted by West African artisans—most notably from the Baoulé or Senufo peoples of Côte d'Ivoire—these pulleys (heddle pulleys) were both utilitarian tools used on traditional narrow-band foot-treadle looms and sacred objects designed to invoke spiritual protection and aesthetic harmony during the weaving process. The figure is detailed with textured torso incisions, a distinctive crested hairstyle, red beaded neck rings, and inlaid red bead eyes, resting on a base with carved geometric triangular motifs housing an original wooden bobbin with thread.
