This exceptionally handsome antique National Cash Register Model 225, bearing serial number 1246437 on its brass maker's plate, features an intricately embossed ornate cast brass casing adorned with a classic fleur-de-lis motif across the exterior panels. The machine is beautifully styled with a polished white milk-glass indicator shelf, a pre-decimal currency key configuration (pounds, shillings, and pence), and an authentic multi-compartment wooden cash drawer that pulls open smoothly. Internal mechanisms reveal the original mechanical indicator drums and pre-decimal reading bands typical of early British-influenced commonwealth storefront commerce. In terms of flaws, the register is missing its decorative brass top sign ("Amount Purchased" plate) above the upper glass indicator housing, and it shows character-rich signs of age and wear including significant crackling, fading, and discoloration on the paper key cap labels, minor surface oxidation, and general age-related weathering on the interior metal components and wooden drawer sections. Missing its drawer keys. Back glass panel is slightly loose. Manufactured by the National Cash Register Company of Dayton, Ohio, this mechanical register represents the pinnacle of early 20th-century retail technology, combining loss-prevention security with high Edwardian aesthetic craftsmanship before materials shortages from World War I transitioned industrial production to simpler painted steel designs.
