This lot features two vintage copies of Psalms en Gesange, the foundational hymnal used by the Dutch Reformed churches in South Africa. These editions contain the metrical psalms and hymns that have shaped Afrikaans liturgical music for generations, featuring the prominent Chi-Rho Christogram on the covers—a symbol combining the first two Greek letters of "Christ." While these hymnals are collective liturgical works rather than the product of a single author, they represent the 1944 and subsequent revisions that standardized worship music across the DRC (NG Kerk) and NH Kerk. The larger volume is housed in a handsome, hand-stitched leather protective cover, while the smaller companion displays the original cloth-bound texture. Both books show fair to good vintage condition, with visible shelf wear, edge fraying on the cloth volume, and some oxidation to the gold-leaf lettering, consistent with regular devotional use and age.
