This classic Edwardian angling treatise was written by Fred. G. Shaw, an accomplished sportsman and the Amateur Champion in Trout Fly Casting at the International Tournament of 1904. Published in 1906 by Bradbury, Agnew, & Co., this work is highly regarded for its technical depth and its inclusion of charming contemporary advertisements for specialized fishing gear, such as "Shaw's Fly Fishing Knife." The volume features a beautiful color frontispiece of a morning's catch and detailed plates that illustrate the refined "science" of the sport during the early 20th century. The book is in fair to good antiquarian condition, with visible fraying and wear to the spine and edges of the decorative green cloth boards. Internally, there is foxing and age-toning to the title page and tissue guard, though the color plate remains vibrant and the binding is intact.
