The 19th-century Japanese bronze censer, known as a Kōro, is a significant category of Japanese art, primarily associated with the Meiji period (1868-1912). This era saw a massive expansion in the production of decorative arts, including bronze work. Made of cast bronze, with a dark, rich patina. The exterior depicts a scene of birds among foliage, dragon-mask handles, seated Shishi finial on the lid. The base has a dent - see photo, otherwise in good condition.
