Crafted from Cape yellowwood and dating back to the 19th-early 20th century. The bench is defined by its robust, upright profile and a traditional riempie seat, constructed from interlaced rawhide strips historically favored for their durability and ventilation in warmer climates. Its architectural design features a high backrest with finely turned spindle splats, gracefully curved armrests supported by turned posts, and straight turned legs reinforced by a sturdy H-stretcher. This functional piece reflects a sophisticated blend of Dutch Colonial influences and local artistry, making it a classic example of "Cape Patrician" seating. Minor tear in one of the leather strips toward the front-right of the seat. Dimensions: 97cm (l) x 88cm (h)
