This is a vintage, heavy-duty galvanized steel maritime navigation lantern, traditionally used as an N.U.C. (Not Under Command) warning signal. Dating from the mid-to-late 20th century, these essential nautical safety lamps were typically manufactured by renowned marine equipment companies such as Perko (Perkins Marine Lamp Corp), National Marine Lamp Co., or Tung Woo, and were hung vertically to alert surrounding vessels when a ship was incapacitated or unable to maneuver. Standing 37cm high, the piece features its original clear, heavy 360-degree Fresnel glass lens designed to maximize light visibility over the open water. Structurally sound with a sturdy carrying handle and functional locking latches, the lantern exhibits an authentic, weathered patina on its galvanized body alongside minor surface oxidation and superficial scratches from true seafaring use. The glass lens remains in good condition with no major chips or structural cracks.
