This striking contemporary art vessel is crafted by acclaimed South African ceramicist Hennie Meyer (b. 1965), known for his distinctive sculptural earthenware and exploration of composite shapes. The piece features a textured, expressive glaze with abstract monochrome brushwork, accented by raised crimson and gold-dusted stippling and protruding, coral-like side flanges. Acquired directly from a local collection, it exemplifies Meyer's imaginative approach to form, surface, and structure. Good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration; exhibits original studio-made finishes and glazing characteristics as intended by the artist. Born in Cape Town in 1965, Hennie Meyer is one of South Africa’s most distinguished contemporary ceramic artists. He trained in ceramics at the Bendigo College of TAFE in Australia and completed his tertiary education at the University of Stellenbosch in 1989. Working from his studio in Durbanville, Cape Town, Meyer primarily works in earthenware, exploring the expressive qualities of clay, painterly glazes, and composite sculptural forms. A fellow of Ceramics Southern Africa and a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, his award-winning work has been featured in major international ceramic publications (including Lark Books' 500 series) and is held in public and private art collections across South Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
